CORE VALUES
Service: We provide compassionate, respectful, and equal service to whomever walks through the door.
Community: When planning or making decisions, we always have the community in mind. We are engaged in an ongoing conversation with the community on what they want and need.
Adaptability: We are responsive to changing needs, and adapt our spaces, resources, and programs as needed.
Equal Access: All information resources, regardless of technology, format or methods of delivery, are readily and equitably accessible to all library patrons.
Intellectual Freedom: We provide free and confidential access to information within state laws.
GOAL 1: Trusted Resource
1.1 Be known as a top, trusted resource in the community.
1.2 Keep current with library and information trends.
1.3. Stay knowledgeable about local and state politics and governance.
1.4 Have a clear understanding of our different patron groups and engage key stakeholders.
1.5 Communicate through various channels for different stakeholders and audiences.
GOAL 2: Spaces
2.1 Provide Library Spaces, both physical and virtual, that are inviting, stimulating, and accessible for a wide variety of uses.
2.2. Invest in technology infrastructure as a key asset for the library to serve as a community hub and information access point.
2.3 Stay current with safety and security measures, both virtual and physical.
GOAL 3: Resources
3.1 Ensure that our community has access to resources in a variety of relevant and accessible formats.
3.2 Follow Colorado Library Law and the Freedom to Read Act in managing library resources.
3.3 Continue to expand our offerings of non-traditional, circulating items, within staff and budgetary capacity.
3.5 Help our community with digital literacy, e-government access, and emerging AI technologies.
3.6 Evaluate material usage and ask/survey the community about their needs, on an ongoing and regular basis.
3.7 Invest in accessible resources and events, to ensure inclusive programs and services.
3.8 Ensure community members are aware of and benefit from greater access to library resources beyond what they have locally.
GOAL 4: Inclusivity and Equity
4.1 Operate under a comprehensive legal and policy structure that prioritizes safety, respect and inclusivity for our entire library community (patrons and staff).
GOAL 5: Programming
5.1 Provide programming for patrons of all ages and backgrounds that educates, informs and helps build communities.
5.2 Focus on providing early learning opportunities and lifelong learning enrichment.
5.3 Evaluate programs and respond to community needs.

5.5 Seek out collaborative partnerships, where it makes sense.
5.6 Foster global library partnerships and opportunities.
GOAL 6: Staff and Volunteers
6.1 Support a staff that is enriched through professional development and training and who are enthusiastic to see the library thrive and achieve its goals.
6.2 Invest in staff expertise through continuing education and training.
6.3 Invest in volunteer training and volunteer appreciation events.
GOAL 7: Financial and Environmental Sustainability
7.1 Ensure adequate resources to achieve our library mission.
7.2 Integrate Environmental, social and governance factors into financial decision-making.
7.3 Be financially stable and fiscally transparent.
7.4 Engage the Foundation in targeted fundraising.
7.5 Diversify funding streams in new ways (rentable spaces, private donors, small business partnerships).
7.6 Increase communication between NCL Board and Town of Nederland’s Sustainability Advisory Board.
