Fireside Storytime (PJ’s encouraged:)
Tuesdays, 6:00 – 6:45 p.m.
All Ages Welcome!
Books, Adventures, Storytelling and more!
Sit by the fireside as we explore stories that are a bit longer and bigger. We’ll stay warm by the fireplace, stay satiated with hot cocoa and snacks, and try to forget that winter started before Halloween this year. We’ll also be grateful that the lifts open just after Halloween.
Movers and Shakers
Wednesdays 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.
Best for kids aged 2 and under
A half hour of books, songs, bounces, action rhymes, bubbles and more!
As children acquire language skills and concepts, we strive to incorporate many fun topics and socially supportive lessons. While we want our children to be exposed to literacy topics and concepts, it is also very important to understand the developmental milestones our children meet. This is a holistic approach to educating children in a safe, fun and engaging environment.
Fridays 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.
Best for ages 1 – 5
Stories, songs, and games!
It’s Friday, yall. Come relax with some stories, songs, a few games – heck, even a parachute from time to time! The focus of this storytime is truly just to develop a love of stories, books and enjoy good company. A great opportunity to get out of the house (those winter months are BRUTAL), engage with books and friends, and see what the Nederland Community Library has to offer.
Studies have shown a significant correlation between how many words a child is exposed to, how many books are in the home, and how often they are read to, as predictors of future success in work and life. Bringing your little one(s) to Storytime is a great way to develop print and phonological awareness, vocabulary, narrative skills and more (click here for more information on the six early literacy skills). Storytime also offers a social aspect, and is an easy and fun way to meet other parents and caregivers.
Are you and your little one(s) avid readers?
Check out our “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program!
The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is designed to help parents prepare their children for one of life’s big milestones: kindergarten. Research has proven that children build the skills they need to learn to read long before they start kindergarten. The most effective way to prepare your child for reading is to read with them. This program is open to all kids not yet in kindergarten. We encourage all kids from Nederland, Ward, Rollinsville and the surrounding Peak to Peak region to register from newborns to preschoolers. When you register for 1000 Books before Kindergarten, you will receive a binder, pages to log the first 100 books, and tips to help make reading aloud one of the most enjoyable and beneficial activities you will ever share with a child. As you progress in 100 book increments, your kiddo will earn additional prizes and get new pre-reading skills to help prepare them for kindergarten and life-long learning.
- Register – Visit the Nederland Community Library and stop by the circulation desk. You will be given a binder and can take home your first reading log.
- Track Your Reading – Each time you read a book with your child, write the name of the book in your reading log. (You can log the same book more than once.)
- Show us Your Reading Logs – When you reach 100 books, bring in your reading log and show it to circulation desk staff. You will be rewarded with a prize!
- Read More Books! When you get all the way to 1000, participants will receive a special prize and recognition for their big accomplishment.
