We're launching a photo digitization and oral histories program to preserve and share Nederland's mountain area history!
A unique Summer Reading Program, Tell Your Story,
at Nederland Community Library!
Our goal is to have as many community members as possible keep a journal of their 2020 summer (we will provide optional writing prompts each week) and donate these journals to a new special collection at the library. These books will be available for check-out, and will become an important part of our archives. We see this as an incredible opportunity to document history as history is made.
- A book-making and journaling kit, appropriate for different ages and skill levels will be provided by the library.
- Weekly small-group classes will be begin in July (following all Boulder County health guidelines).
- Online video tutorials and written instructions are available on our website and YouTube channel.
Our timeline is to start having 2020 Summer Journals turned into the library by the end of August.
Enjoy them at home too
We understand some of our younger patrons might not want to immediately part with their projects and that is certainly fine! Enjoy them in your homes for as long as you want and if the time comes when the idea of having them preserved at the library becomes appealing, let us know.
Different ways to record and share
Do you have a different way you’d prefer to record and share your Summer 2020 history? Great! Contact Mike and we’ll get it figured out. If you are interested in doing an audio recording of your story for our #NedSpeaks program, please directly contact Charlie.
We have gift cards to local businesses if you choose to answer the prompts we will be providing throughout the summer (via Facebook and emails for those who receive kits).
Sign up now! Kits will be available beginning June 5th! For more information and to register for our program, contact Cathy Grace, 303-258-1101
